Innovative foster teen program opens in Ventura County

Aspiranet, one of California’s largest nonprofit social service agencies, seeks foster parents for new Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care program.

(VENTURA COUNTY, CALIF.) –Aspiranet, one of the largest, nonprofit social services agencies in California, has launched an innovative new program, Multidimensional Treatment Foster Care (MTFC). It is the first program of its kind in Ventura County.

Created for at-risk youths requiring intensive support and structure, MTFC teams foster parents with an Aspiranet program supervisor, individual and family therapists and a life skills coach to work collaboratively with troubled foster teens to reunite them with permanent families (birth, relative or foster) within six to nine months.

Designed to address the specific needs of teenagers ages 12 through 17 needing intensive guidance and support, MTFC foster care differs from traditional foster care. MTFC parents receive pre-certification training, 24/7 support from Aspiranet program supervisors, assistance from fellow MTFC team members and a high level of compensation.

“Although it is not easy being a MTFC foster parent, it can be extremely rewarding,” said Sonia Estrada, MTFC Program Supervisor in Aspiranet’s Ventura office. “There is no better feeling than knowing that your love, structure and compassion have helped a young person change direction and turn their life around.”

MTFC parents require a special skill set that includes being comfortable defining and delivering consequences; a calm, non-reactive demeanor; task driven and organized; focused and timely; ability to provide a home environment conducive to teens and a flexible work situation that allows time for daily and weekly communication with other MTFC team members.

Aspiranet is currently conducting interviews for individuals or parents interested in becoming a MFTC foster parent. For program information, contact Sonia Estrada at Aspiranet Ventura County at
